Property Description

WOODED .98 ACRE LOT FOR SALE situated across the Highway from Lake Medora, in Grant Township, in Keweenaw County, at the northern tip of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Keweenaw is the smallest county in the State in both population and land area. But it is the largest in total area, because it includes waters of Lake Superior. It is “At the End of The Road”, at the northern terminus of US Highway 41. Highway 41 is over 2000 miles long, passes through eight States, and the southern end is in Miami, Florida. Lake Medora is a 695 acre all-sports inland lake that is located just north of the property with a public boat launch site approximately 200 feet away, off of US Highway 41. The historic town of Copper Harbor is 4.5 miles north of the property. There is public access to Lake Medora which is surrounded completely by dense forest that has lots of wildlife. The majority of the shoreline is privately owned There are a few picturesque islands that are fun to paddle to. Lake Medora water depths vary from shallow to about 26 feet, with most of the lake being less than 25 feet in depth. The bottom consist of shallow flat shoals, sand, gravel, rock rubble, and rock outcrops – the deep water is under laid by peat. There is lots of forested natural shoreline and islands in this lake. This lake supports a fishery of Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, and Walleye. It is an artificial lake formed by damming of the Mosquito River in the 1860's to supply water-power to the Keweenaw Copper Company's Medora Copper Mine. If you enjoy hiking, biking, or ATV riding the area is surrounded by miles of trail. Some of the trails can be accessed off the Medora Road, and from the Washington Mine Road. Taxes to be determined after land division is approved.
